Raul Gonzalez’s mother passed away on April 28, 2016. Mr. Gonzalez is the Chief Instructor of Genbu-Kai Mexico.
Soke Kenei Mabuni – 2nd Sōke and son of Shito-Ryu Founder, Kenwa Mabuni – passed away on December 19, 2015 at the age of 97 in Osaka, Japan. He was born on February 13, 1918 in Shuri, Okinawa.
Teruo Chinen Sensei of the Jundokan International organization passed away on September 9, 2015 from diabetes and kidney disease.

Randall G. Hassell, co-founder and President of American JKA Karate Association (AJKA) and Chief Instructor of the American Shotokan Karate Alliance (ASKA), passed away on August 4, 2015.

Stavros Costarangos’ mother, Sofia Pashales de Costarangos, passed away after a courageous battle with cancer on February 28, 2015.

On Saturday, March 10 2012, Lorens Safavi passed away after fighting brain cancer for several years. Lorens was the Genbu-Kai head instructor for Switzerland. He was much loved by all of us who knew him, for his kind, generous nature, as well as his dedication to Genbu-Kai and Martial Arts.
In early March, Jim Hawkes of USKA passed away. He was a dear colleague and friend of Sensei Demura and Genbu-Kai, he was an important part of USKA, and he was dedicated martial arts practitioner and instructor.
Some time ago, Dan Lee, the beloved brother of Genbu-Kai student Mei Okumura, passed away from cancer, as the creator of the much loved character nemo, he had contributed something very special to the lives of uncountable people, and we honor his work and his legacy.
The beloved son of our dear member Milton and Marlene Gerloff pass away the wee of January 21, 2012 of a heart attack.
Our dear friend Ynette Holst passed away Sunday, October 2, 2011, after an all too brief fight with pancreatic cancer – she was a much loved member of the Santa Ana Dojo, a black belt in karate and batto.
Randall “Randy” Butler, a black belt who used to be an active member of our Riverside Dojo, passed away on September 3, 2011 of lung cancer.
Our dear Genbu-Kai family member Byron Fennema Okaji’s beloved father, Dick Hiroyuki Okaji, passed away May 31, 2011, at the age of 89. He had a kendo dojo in Hawaii, and his organization was called Ken-Yu-Kai.
Our dear Genbu-Kai Family member Byron Fennema Okaji’s very beloved mother, Atsudo “Mary” Kunimura Nennema, passed away May 3, 2011. She was born July 13, 1924 and lived a full, happy life.
