Announced by the Tokyo 2020 Organizing Committee on June 22, Karate is selected for final consideration as one of eight IOC-recognized International Federations (IFs) proposing events to be considered for inclusion at the Games of the XXXII Olympiad (Tokyo 2020).
Karate has never been contested at the Olympics. Its fellow homegrown martial art, Judo, first joined in 1964, when Tokyo last hosted the Summer Games. Since 1972, Judo has been included on every program.
A final decision will come in August 2016.
